Four companies, including HPCL and BPCL, were fined a total of Rs 286 crore

The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has slapped a total fine of Rs 286 crore on four companies, including BPCL and HPCL, for building a gas chamber-like structure in Mumbai. The fine has been slapped for harming the environment.

NGT said in a statement that due to C Lord Containers Limited (SLCL), Aegis Logistics Limited (ALL), Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) Has increased.

The tribunal said the dangerous toxic gas could cause severe damage to body parts, including the lungs. Sometimes the area becomes like a gas chamber. NGT has ordered to pay Rs 76.5 crore to HPCL, Rs 67.5 crore to BPCL, Rs 142 crore to Aegis and Rs 0.2 crore to SLCL.

A bench headed by NGT Chief Justice AK Goyal said that two senior members of the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), a representative from the Ministry of Environment, District Magistrate, NEERI, TISS-Mumbai, IIT-Mumbai, K.E. The joint committee will formulate an action plan to prevent damage to the environment.

The NGT has imposed the fine in response to a petition filed by Mumbai resident Charudatta Koli. The petitioner sought appropriate action to curb the rising pollution in Mahul, Ambapada and Chembur.
