New Delhi Dated 15th August 2020 Saturday

The Trained Nurses Association of India (TNAI) said that so far twenty trained nurses have lost their lives while treating corona patients and more than five hundred and nine trained nurses have fallen victim to the infection. The cases of corona are more prevalent in Maharashtra, Gujarat and West Bengal in particular and the 20 nurses who have lost their lives so far were from these states.

This was the first time TNAI had announced the status of nurses since the outbreak of corona in the country. Virtually all medical staff have been praised as Corona Warriors. Earlier, the media was informed about the doctors who died of the infection rather than treating the patients, but no announcement was made about the nurses or other medical staff. Now this announcement was made official by TNAI. TNAI said the highest number of infected nurses was in West Bengal where 111 nurses had been infected so far and three nurses had died.

In Maharashtra, 75 nurses were infected and six nurses died. In Gujarat, 96 nurses were infected with corona and four died. Mizoram, Chhattisgarh, Kerala and Uttar Pradesh had the lowest number of infected nurses while Rajasthan, Telangana and Uttar Pradesh had the lowest number of nurses. Meanwhile, the central government claimed that N95 masks worth Rs 34 crore and PPE kits worth Rs 1.28 crore had been distributed in the states and union territories since March this year. According to the health ministry, hydroxychloroquine tablets worth Rs 10.83 crore and 22,533 made-in-India ventilators were supplied during the period.
