Bihar elections will be held on time

-Election Commission dispelled all speculations

-Election will not stop because of Corona

New Delhi / Patna Dt. 11 August 2020 Tuesday

Dismissing all speculations that the Assembly polls in Bihar would be prolonged on the pretext of the Corona virus and the catastrophic floods, the Election Commission has categorically said that the Bihar Assembly elections will be held on time.

"People are allowed to speculate but let me say that the Bihar Assembly elections will be held on time," said Chief Election Commissioner Sunil Arora. The polling panel was preparing for the election in view of the spread of Corona. Corona was instructed to take necessary steps to prevent infection. The commission was also prepared to take the necessary steps to prevent corona infection during the election. Measures like social distance, mask etc. will be taken strictly. The Election Commission, the state government and all the district administrations were working hard to hold the Bihar Assembly elections on time.

He said Lalu Yadav's RJD and Ram Vilas Paswan's Lok Janshakti Party had requested the Election Commission to postpone the state assembly elections.

The Lok Janshakti party had written a letter to the commission requesting it. He argued that holding elections now could endanger the lives of millions of people, so it is not reasonable to hold Bihar Assembly elections now.

Congress leader Akhilesh Prasad Singh also said on Sunday that now was not the right time for Bihar Assembly elections. But all these arguments were not accepted by the Election Commission. The Election Commission had earlier sought suggestions from all political parties on the issue of elections and asked them to send suggestions by July 31. The deadline was later extended to August 11. But on Monday, he said the Bihar Assembly elections would be held on time.
