New Delhi Dated 14th August 2020 Friday

Heavy rains and torrential downpours lashed five northern Indian states, including the country's capital New Delhi. In Bihar alone, 77 lakh people were adversely affected by the floods and hundreds of villages were devastated.

The National Meteorological Department had forecast heavy to very heavy rains for three more days across the country and especially in five northern Indian states, including Delhi. Southwest winds are expected to bring torrential rains in most parts of the country for the next two to three days. Earlier, heavy rains inundated 16 districts in Bihar and adversely affected more than 77 lakh people. Twenty-two rivers in Bihar alone were flooded. As a result, hundreds of villages were flooded.

The Bagmati River was flowing above the danger line at Sitamarhi, Muzaffarpur and Darbhanga, the Budi Gandak at Samastipur and Khagadia and the Ghaghra River at Siwan, so there was an atmosphere of Chomer fear.

The capital, New Delhi, on the other hand, was hit by torrential rains over the last two to three days, inundating four to five feet deep. Most of the underpasses were flooded.

An orange alert was issued in Madhya Pradesh. Eight districts in the state had heavy rains and flood-like conditions. The National Meteorological Department had forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall in Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi and eastern parts of Rajasthan. The National and State Disaster Relief Departments were sabotaged.

In Uttarakhand, the National Highway leading to Badrinath and Kedarnath was blocked due to landslides which had not yet returned to normal.
