7 days of national mourning on the demise of former President Pranab Mukherjee

Bharat Ratna and former President Pranab Mukherjee passed away at the age of 84 on Monday. He was ill for a long time and was undergoing treatment at the Army Hospital in Delhi where he breathed his last. The central government has declared 7 days of national mourning in honor of the former president.

Pranab Mukherjee tested positive for corona and recently underwent brain surgery. Pranab Mukherjee was admitted to RR Hospital in Delhi on August 10 due to ill health.

He is generally regarded as a learned and decent person but during his tenure as President he was very strict in taking mercy petitions. During his tenure, he rejected 97% of the mercy petitions. Pranab Mukherjee's mercy petition only Rs. Venkataraman himself rejected.
