New Delhi Dated 24th August 2020 Monday

Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a job portal on July 11 this year. Young people who lost their jobs during the lockdown were offered jobs. In the last forty days, about seven million registrations were made on this portal. Of these, only 7,700 young people found work.

Not to be outdone, between 14th and 21st of this month, seven lakh youth registered. Of these, only 691 (six units) got jobs. According to figures released by the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, three lakh seventy thousand youth registered on the ministry's ASEEM portal. Of these, only 2 percent found employment.

According to the ministry, about 70 lakh youths have registered in the last 40 days. Of these, only 7700 young people got jobs. This portal was designed to help educated unemployed youth. From time to time the ministry would take action in this regard. It was not just immigrant workers who registered on this portal. Among them were unemployed who got jobs in tailors, electricians, sewing machine operators, field technicians and mechanics.

Demand for courier delivery men, nurses, cleaners and marketing assistants was high, according to the ministry. Figures from Karnataka, Delhi, Haryana, Telangana and Tamil Nadu suggest that there was a severe shortage of skilled workers in these states due to the absence of workers who went home due to lockdowns and corona.

Skilled workers in various fields were not easily available. Millions of young people, on the other hand, were scrambling for work. This was a strange situation.
