23 killed in heavy rains in Karachi, Pakistan

Heavy rains disrupted normal life in Karachi and flooded all the roads in the city, forcing all commercial activities to stop and 23 people lost their lives. Heavy rains lashed Pakistan's main city and economic capital on Tuesday.

The meteorological department said today that the rains in August had broken a 90-year record. The monsoon rains were prolonged and it is phenomenal. This pattern will continue for the next few days, ”said a Meteorological Department spokesperson.

The trade was paralyzed as people were stranded in their respective places due to continuous heavy rains since this morning. People flooded on the road and had to stay at home while those who got out were stuck in several places. Scenes posted on social media as well as appearing on TV depicted the horrific situation.

Local civil service organizations struggled to get water out. Roads were flooded and traffic was disrupted. The Karachi police commissioner appealed to people not to leave their homes.

The Karachi power company also warned people to be prepared for power cuts. About 18 people have been killed in the rains since Tuesday. In some places the walls of houses collapsed. A top official in Karachi said 50 people had been killed so far in the rains that began in July.
