11 killed as 70-tonne crane breaks down at Hindustan shipyard in Visakhapatnam

Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL) in Visakhapatnam has come up with a gross negligence. A huge 70-tonne crane crashed here, killing 11 people, including laborers and supervisors.

The incident was so tragic that there was no time to rescue anyone as all the cranes were crushed underneath. The incident happened while the trial of the crane was underway.

Visakhapatnam District Collector V Vinay Chande said the incident took place while crane service was in progress. The video of the crane falling is also going viral on social media.

Trade unions, on the other hand, allege that the crane was overloaded which led to the incident. While the administration says that there was a problem with the crane or overloading it, we are fully investigating the incident.

Surprisingly, a new crane was brought in but it was not used and the incident took place while its trial was going on. Of the 11 people killed, 4 out of 11 were HSL employees while the other seven were working on contract.

This is the first such incident at the Hindustan Shipyard, according to local police officials and company managers. A police official said the incident happened when employees were trying to raise the crane.

Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has directed the district collector and police commissioner to take immediate action. It may be noted that Hindustan Shipyard Limited is located in the maritime area of ​​Andhra Pradesh, the company is years old and is managed directly by the Central Government. The company is involved in shipbuilding and repair work.
