Indian Railways decided to implement a new scheme to reduce personal contacts and maintain social distance during the Corona period. From now on, every passenger will be given a contactless ticket with QR code. Arrangements were also being made to scan the ticket at the railway station or on the train.

Railway Board Chairman VK Yadav informed that the system has already started at Prayagraj station in Uttar Pradesh. Like the airport, the railways now had arrangements to issue tickets with QR codes. Explaining the details of the scheme, he said that nowadays more than 80 per cent tickets are booked online. Each passenger will be given a contactless ticket with QR code.

A message will come to the ticket holder's phone from the counter of the railway station with a link to the QR code. The QR code can be seen by opening the link. At the station or on the train, the ticket checker will have a small device or mobile phone through which he can scan the code of the landing ticket. Thus contactless facility was also being implemented in ticket checking. This QR coded ticket scheme was being implemented before launching the paperless ticket scheme in the near future.

He further informed that online recharge facility was introduced at Kolkata metro stations. The descendants took advantage of it. This will provide adequate protection to every passenger and railway staff against the Corona virus. Gradually this arrangement will be made at all the railway stations of the country. He also informed that the IRCTC website was also being updated.
