Kuwait is issuing a new tourism bill, which will have a direct impact on 8 lakh Indians

Kuwait City, July 6, 2020, Monday

Amid the economic crisis caused by the Corona virus epidemic and rising unemployment, Kuwait is set to issue a rule that will affect Indians working there.

According to Gulf News, the Legal and Legislative Committee of the National Assembly of Kuwait has approved the draft of the Migration Quota Bill. As a result, 8 lakh Indian workers will have to return from Kuwait. The Legislative and Legislative Committee of the National Assembly has decided that the draft of the Migration Quota Bill is constitutional.

According to the bill, the number of migrant Indians should not exceed 15% of the total population of Kuwait. The bill has now been sent to the relevant committee for consideration.

Kuwait has a total population of 4.3 million, of which 30 million are tourists. Of the total tourists, 14.5 lakh are Indians. However 15% quota means the number of Indians can be limited to 6.5-7 lakh.

India receives good remittances from Kuwait's traveling Indians. In 2018, Kuwait received 8 4.8 billion in foreign exchange. However, if the new bill is passed in Kuwait, the Indian government will have to bear huge economic losses in the form of foreign currency.

This rule will be applied not only to Indians but also to other tourists. Apart from Indians, other tourists in Kuwait are from Egypt. The worst effects of the Corona virus have been on the Kuwaiti economy. A few months ago, there was a controversy over tourists in Kuwait.

Kuwaiti lawmakers and government officials were demanding a reduction in the number of foreign nationals. Kuwait's Prime Minister Sheikh Sabah Al Khalid Sabah said in a statement that the number of tourists in the country should be reduced from 70 percent to 30 percent.

Thus, Kuwait has been a country dependent on tourists. Indians work in every sector of Kuwait and their contribution to the economy is huge. The Indian Embassy in Kuwait is considering the proposed bill, although India has not yet issued a statement on the matter.
