In Kanpur, thugs opened fire on a policeman who went to arrest a historian, killing eight police personnel, including a field officer, a deputy SP and an inspector. The attack injured seven policemen, one of whom is in critical condition after being shot in the abdomen.

The attack is seen as one of the biggest attacks on UP police. A police team went to arrest historian Vikas Dubey, against whom several dozen cases have been registered, and he was shot dead at the time. The incident took place in Bikru village in Chaubepur Thana area of ​​Kanpur. At around 12:30 pm on Thursday night, Vikas along with Bithur and Chaubepur police reached Bikru village of Dubey but his men were already ready to ambush there.

The JCB was deployed in their path to stop the police team and the police team got down from their vehicles so they were surrounded on all sides and started firing. Gang members took advantage of the darkness and altitude to attack the police team, and eight policemen were killed when they were surrounded and down.

Shortly after the encounter, another encounter took place in which police shot dead three criminals and found out that they were with Vikas Dubey. However, Vikas has managed to escape from the scene and strict checking has been carried out by sealing the borders to catch him.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed stern action in the matter and electronic surveillance is being carried out to find the location of Vikas Dubey. Apart from that, the police are searching for him by raiding the place and top officials of Lucknow have left for Kanpur. A forensic team from Kanpur has reached the spot and a team of experts from Lucknow has also reached there.

UP DGP HC Awasthi said an investigation would also be launched to find out how the gangsters came to know about the arrival of the police. A man named Rahul Tiwari had registered a murder case against Vikas Dubey and then a police team reached Vikas's village.

Murder of a minister at a police outpost

Vikas Dubey assassinated Santosh Shukla, a minister in the Rajnath Singh government in 2001, by breaking into a police station. From Kanpur village to Allahabad, Gorakhpur in UP, Vikas Dubey's criminal wires are connected and he was also famous for extorting money from traders and industrialists.

The 25,000-rupee ex-minister has been a former minister and a member of the district panchayat, and 53 of the 60 cases against him are ongoing. He wanted to make a name for himself in the criminal world from his childhood so he started gangs and started robbery, theft and murder. He assassinated the Minister of State 19 years ago by going to a police station and later trying to gain a foothold in politics.
