Britain, Ta. 27 July 2020, Monday

Corona, a professor at three British universities, has become a millionaire overnight after discovering a drug. Synairgen, the company of Professor Ratko Jukanovic, Stephen Holgate and Donna Davis, surged overnight. So far, the company's share price has risen 3,000 percent.

Professors Ratko Jukanovic, Stephen Holgate and Donna Davis formed a company called Synergen. The company tested a drug for the corona virus. The trial found that 79 per cent of the patients who were given the drug had a significantly lower risk of becoming seriously ill.

In fact, the three professors of the medical school at the University of Southampton in Britain made this discovery about 20 years ago. He found that patients with asthma and chronic lung disease were deficient in a protein called interferon beta. This protein helps fight the common cold. The professors found that compensating for the protein deficiency would help the patient fight viral infections.

The professors formed a company called Synairgen to turn their research into medicine. The company entered the stock market in 2004. But after the Corona epidemic began, the company began clinical trials of SNG001, an interferon beta protein drug, in February and March. Preliminary results of the trial were released during the current week.

SNG001 was administered directly into the lungs of patients during the trial. The trial found that giving the drug increased the patient's chances of recovery by two to three times. The trial involved 101 people. Shares of the company surged on July 21 after the trial results were released. Despite having only 0.56% to 0.59% stake in the company, the three professors became the owners of Rs 15-16 crore due to the rise in share price.
