Delhi: He committed suicide after shooting dead a CRPF trooper

New delhi date. Saturday 25 July 2020

An agitated CRPF jawan shot dead his inspector near Union Home Minister Amit Shah's bungalow No. 61 at Lodhi Estate on Taghalakh Road in the capital New Delhi. He later committed suicide. The shooter was reported to be of sub-inspector rank.

While the inspector was eating in his room, the sub-inspector went there and shot him. He then went to the guard room and shot himself there. Both officers died. The sub-inspector was a resident of Jammu and Kashmir and the inspector was from Haryana. The two were on duty at Bungalow No. 61 and lived together in the guard quarters of the bungalow.

"We received a message around 10.30 pm on Friday that some rounds of firing had taken place near bungalow No. 61 of Lodhi Estate," the investigating police team said. We rushed there and saw that both the inspector and the sub-inspector were dead.

Now the Delhi Police was investigating why this happened. The incidence of depression and hypertension in the security forces has been on the rise for some time now. Corona has led to an increase in suicides or murders in forces such as the police and the CRPF. Psychologists are said to be investigating the matter.

Corona's move led to a much longer than expected increase in the hours of duty of the police and CRPF personnel, a fact which does not rule out the possibility that their tensions may have escalated, a source said. The incident at Lodhi Estate was being investigated by senior Delhi Police officials.
