Corona hinders the education of 1.6 billion children and youth worldwide

London, 20, July, 2020, Tuesday

At a time when the world is witnessing an education emergency due to the Corona epidemic, a recent report by Save the Children, a British organization working for children's rights, estimates that 1.2 billion children and young people will not be able to go to school or university in 2020. This figure is about 50% of the total students in the world. The report also states that for the first time in human history, a major obstacle to the education of an entire generation of children has been created globally.

The way the economic situation is deteriorating due to Corona will also have a big impact on children’s school enrollment. An estimated 8 to 12 crore children are at risk of falling into poverty. Not only will the children be forced to find a livelihood at an early age to cope with such a catastrophe on the family. Niger, Mali, Chad, Liberia, Afghanistan, Guinea, Mauritania, Yemen, Pakistan, Senegal and Cવte d'Ivoire are among the 12 countries in the world where the future of children is most likely to be adversely affected. In some lands, the practice of picking up girls from school and marrying them soon may also be on the rise.

According to the report, the education budgets of low- and middle-income countries will be reduced by 3 billion. In order to face this unprecedented crisis in the field of education, it is necessary for the governments of different countries to focus on funding and save the future of children. Not only that, after the reopening of the school, there has been talk of focusing on adherence to education and social distance.

The governments of countries with low annual incomes should give people some time off from bank loan installments. Children from poor families were thus marginalized, with Corona adding to the difficulty. The goal of giving every child in the world the right to education by 2030 will now be pushed back for many more years to come.
