Conflict in Nepal, halting work on the dam and clashes with Indian security forces

New Delhi, July 8, 2020, Wednesday

The ongoing dispute on the India-Nepal border is still ongoing. Nepal has once again threatened to break the dam on the Lalbakaiya river on the border of Bihar and Nepal.

Floods in Nepal's rivers cause catastrophe in Bihar's eastern Champaran district every year. To prevent this, the government has started building dams, which Nepal has stopped construction by showing its land.

There are also reports of Nepalese security forces as well as people from nearby villages beating up Indian Armed Border Force personnel. A team from India and Nepal has surveyed the disputed area as per the government's instructions as the dam has been suspended since May 30.

The river on which this dam is being built passes through Bihar through the mountainous areas of Nepal. After the catastrophic floods in 2017, the work of raising the dam has been started. However, Nepal has now stopped the work of some parts of the dam.
