China can't be trusted: Britain

London, 7 July 2020, Tuesday

Not only in the eyes of India but also in the eyes of other countries of the world, China is rapidly becoming a nuisance.

The US is daily criticizing China for its regionalist policy and threatening language with other countries, and now Britain has joined it.

Dominic Rabe, Britain's foreign secretary, who has been critical of China over the Hong Kong issue, said in a new statement that it could not be trusted given China's actions.

When Britain handed over control of Hong Kong to China in 1997, it guaranteed all kinds of autonomy to Hong Kong until 2047. However, Britain says China is violating this guarantee by introducing a new security law.

"China has promised to keep Hong Kong's autonomy intact. It was a matter of mutual trust and now other countries are questioning whether China is living up to its promises at the international level," Kabe said.

The British Foreign Secretary's statement came after remarks by the Chinese ambassador in which the ambassador accused Britain of interfering in China's internal affairs.

Britain has announced that it will issue residency visas to 2.6 million Hong Kongers in protest of China's announcement of a security law in Hong Kong.
