At the behest of three Gandhi family trust governments, the MHA will investigate the funding

New delhi date. 8 July 2020, Wednesday

In the midst of all this, the Union Home Ministry has taken a big decision at a time when questions are constantly being raised about funding in the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation. A committee has been constituted by the Home Ministry to look into the funding received by these foundations and the violations committed by them. Simanchal Das, Special Director, ED, has been assigned to head the committee. A Union Home Ministry spokesperson said this in a tweet on Wednesday.

"The Union Home Ministry has constituted an inter-ministerial committee to look into the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation, the Rajiv Gandhi Charitable Trust and the Indira Gandhi Memorial Trust," the tweet said.

Several facts will be investigated

The inquiry will look into violations of the rules of PMLA Act, Income Tax Act, FCRA Act and the committee will be headed by the Special Director of ED. According to a report, three different agencies will investigate the funding involved with the trust. The CBI team will investigate the case under the FCRA Act. Apart from that, the ED team will investigate cases related to PMLA violations and income tax department tax.

What is the whole controversy?

In fact, amid the ongoing dispute between India and China, when the Congress party launched attacks on the central government, the Bharatiya Janata Party besieged the Congress. Bharatiya Janata Party president JP Nadda had accused the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation of receiving funding from China. Apart from that, the UPA government gave the money from the Prime Minister's Relief Fund for the country to the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation. According to the BJP, the amount was given to the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation by the PMNRF between 2005 and 2008.

What is Rajiv Gandhi Foundation?

However, all these allegations have been denied by the Congress and the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation has been claimed to be the foundation of the country. The Rajiv Gandhi Foundation is used for service work as claimed by the Congress. In the year 2005-06, the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation received a modest sum of Rs. 20 lakhs from PMNRF which was used for relief work in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
