Another arrested in Bhima Koregaon case

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Tuesday arrested Honey Babu, an English language professor at Delhi University. This Associate Professor of English is a resident of Gautam Nagar, Uttar Pradesh. An NIA spokesperson said the professor was constantly promoting Naxalism and Maoism. Along with the other accused, Honey Babu was also active in anti-national activities and conspiracies. Honey Babu will be produced in court today.

Violence erupted in Bhima Koregaon in Pune district in January 2018. Earlier, on December 31, 2017, a Yalgarh conference was held in the area. On the occasion, some people made inflammatory speeches which led to the outbreak of violence in Bhima Koregaon. One youth lost his life in the violence and crores of public property were severely damaged. So far 19 persons have been arrested in the case and charges have been filed against them under various sections of the Indian Penal Code. Professor Honey Babu of Delhi University will be produced in a Mumbai court today.

An NIA spokesman said a human rights lawyer, educators and writers were involved in the case. Most of these people were associated with Kabir Kala Manch and the Communist Party. All were educated and yet engaged in anti-social activities.

An NIA spokesperson also alleged that some of them were involved in plotting to assassinate the Prime Minister. The NIA has been investigating the case since January this year. The spokesperson also said that evidence was collected by the NIA regarding the involvement of each detainee. Honey Babu was arrested on Tuesday.
