The effects of 'Nisarg' hurricane began to show, heavy rains in Goa

An alert has been issued in Maharashtra, Gujarat, Daman-Diu-Dadarnagar Haveli when a natural storm is likely to hit Gujarat and Maharashtra by June 3.

State governments have now started evacuating people living near the coast and in low-lying areas. The hurricane is reported to be approaching Mumbai and Palghar. The hurricane is currently 450 km from Mumbai.

The meteorological department says the pressure on the Arabian Sea could turn into a hurricane in the next 24 hours.

In view of the hurricane in Gujarat, 10 NDRF teams have been deployed in five districts of South Gujarat - Surat, Bharuch, Navsari, Valsad and Dang and Bhavnagar and Amreli districts of Saurashtra.

The Maharashtra government has alerted Mumbai and surrounding districts.
