Protesters insult Mahatma Gandhi statue, US apologizes

Washington, Ta. 04 June 2020, Thursday

Protests continue in the United States following the death of Gorge Floyd, a black man. Meanwhile, some protesters on Wednesday damaged a statue of Mahatma Gandhi at the Indian Embassy in Washington DC. These protesters have covered the statue of Gandhiji with cloth. According to sources, the police in Washington have launched an investigation against the accused persons. The United States has apologized to India over the matter.

The Indian Embassy has also lodged a complaint with the Metropolitan Police against the US on the issue. Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid homage to Mahatma Gandhi on September 30, 2014 in Washington DC. Protesters have insulted the statue of Mahatma Gandhi.

US Secretary of Defense Mark Asper has been criticized for calling the protesters' streets a "battlefield" for the military and has been accused of failing to keep the military out of politics. Asper distanced himself from Trump's warnings to use troops to quell street protests in the country on Wednesday. The president said he would use all available troops if the state governor failed to stop the violence. However, Esper reversed a Pentagon decision Wednesday that troops on duty from the Washington area would be sent home.

"We need to uphold the rule of law," President Donald Trump said Wednesday. You see, in all these places, where the problem is, the Republican Party is not in power, the Liberal Democrats are in power.
