India won unopposed in UNSC, PM Modi thanked the global community in this way

New Delhi, Ta, 18 June 2020 Thursday

India was on Wednesday elected as a temporary member of the United Nations Security Council. India got votes from 184 out of 192 countries. India will be a temporary member for two years. This is the 8th occasion when India has become a temporary member of the UNSC.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed happiness over India's selection. PM Modi has said that India will work to promote global peace and security. India was also a temporary member in 2011-2012.

The Prime Minister tweeted, "I am heartily grateful for the majority support shown by the global community for India's membership in the United Nations Security Council." India will work with all member countries to promote global peace, security, flexibility and unity.

Means to be a temporary member of India in UNSC

India's temporary membership in the UNSC means that Prime Minister Modi's global leadership has been sealed. The fact that India has been elected as a non-permanent member of the UNSC for the 8th time means that India's claim to permanent membership in the Security Council has also been strengthened.

Out of 192 votes, 184 votes were cast in favor of India, which means that India will preside over the post-Corona world. Being a non-permanent member of the UNSC until 2021-22 means that it will ensure peace and security around the world.

Annoying China and Pakistan

China and Pakistan are worried about India becoming a temporary member of the UNSC. Although China has been pushing India to become a permanent member of the UN Security Council, it has not been able to stop India from becoming a non-permanent member of the UNSC for the eighth time. Only 128 votes were needed to be selected as a temporary member but India won a landslide victory. With 184 votes out of 194, India once again became a member of the United Nations Security Council.
