India to export PPE kits, govt orders industrialists to prepare for global certification

India, which has relied on China for its Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) kit, is now not only self-sufficient in this matter, but has reached the point of exporting it. The central government has asked the PPE kit maker to prepare it for global certification due to the Corona virus epidemic so that it can be exported.

Officials said the PPE industry has expressed a desire to export for which they will have to prepare an international certification after which the government will decide on exports in view of domestic demand. The industry must prepare for international certification and meet the standards of other countries.

"There are some practical requirements, such as health and safety, and the standards are different for each country," said an official familiar with the matter.

Manufacturers require CE marking for PPE exports to the European Union and certification from the Food and Drug Administration for export to the United States.

This certification is obtained in two ways. Either the seller sends PPE samples to these authorities or the agency allows its authorized laboratory in India to certify the manufacturers.
