Corona vaccine will be more effective if given orally: British scientists

London, Thursday 25 June 2020

The coronavirus vaccine may be more effective as a nasal spray or inhaler. A team of British researchers has made this claim about vaccines made for Covid-19.

Scientists at Oxford University and Imperial College London believe that giving people medicine directly into the lungs may be the best way to protect people from respiratory infections. Both universities are currently testing their own Covid-19 vaccine.

The third stage is the testing of the Oxford vaccine

The vaccine being developed by Oxford is leading the global race for the treatment of covid. More than 10,000 people are currently being tested in the UK, Brazil and South Africa, where the Imperial College London vaccine has been given to the first participant and no side effects have been seen so far.

The vaccine can make mucosal immunity effective

The mucous membrane is the protective shield of tissue that is present in all organs such as the lungs and respiratory system. It is also present in the nose and mouth and catches the virus entering. It forms a powerful and viscous substance that bites the virus.

Vaccinating through the nose it trains the mucous membrane so that they can immediately recognize the Covid-19 virus and prevent it from entering, this vaccine can be given as a nasal spray.

Will be more effective for the elderly

Inhaler or spray vaccines may be more effective for the elderly, said research professor Robin Shetoke. It will reach directly into the lungs and spread to tissues that can infect the virus.

He said the traditional needle-injected vaccine would not be effective in the elderly because their immunity weakens with age. Scientists believe that the nasal vaccine will help strengthen the lungs of the elderly.
