Another Chinese company, Huawei, could also be embroiled in tensions between India and China. Huawei is a major contender for 5G services in India. The 5G auction has been suspended in India for a year now but last year Huawei was allowed to participate in the 5G trial.

The US is currently pressuring countries around the world to keep Huawei out. Huawei products have been banned in the United States until May 2021. It is learned that 5G was discussed at a meeting of senior ministers of the Modi government yesterday. Home Minister Amit Shah, Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal were present at the meeting. However, the outcome of the meeting is yet to be ascertained.

Huawei is being opposed in India because of its relationship with its founder PLA. The road ahead is tough for Huawei in the changed environment in the country after the border dispute. Concerns have been raised about Huawei in India for security reasons. Huawei has dropped out of the 5G race in Singapore, where Nokia and Ericsson have a chance.

Huawei has been kept out of the trial for security reasons in the US and Australia. The Indian government is also expected to take action against Huawei.

59 Chinese app banned

The government has started taking action against Chinese apps that are dangerous to the country's security. 59 Chinese apps, including TikTok, were banned yesterday. While 59 Chinese apps have been banned, the sword of ban is hanging over other Chinese apps as well.

In the next one or two days, the data of all the banned apps will be blocked. These apps have been removed from the Google Play Store and will not be updated. However all these restrictions are interim. Now the whole issue will go to a committee and the banned app will be able to put its side before the committee. The committee will then decide whether the ban should be continued or lifted.
