19th election of 18 Rajya Sabha seats of seven states including Gujarat

Due to the spread of Corona virus, the date for the 18 Rajya Sabha elections was extended. However, now that the lockdown is slowly opening up, a new date for the Rajya Sabha elections has also been announced. Elections will now be held on these seats on June 15, according to information released by the Election Commission.

6 of Gujarat, 4 of Andhra, m. State 2, Rajasthan 3, Jharkhand 2 seats included, results on the 19th

Out of the 12 seats that are going to be contested, four seats will be held in Andhra Pradesh, four in Gujarat, three in Madhya Pradesh, three in Rajasthan and two in Jharkhand and one each in Manipur and Meghalaya. Elections will be held on these seats on the 18th and counting of votes will be done on the same date in the evening, the Election Commission said in a statement. The counting of votes is usually done on the same day as the Rajya Sabha elections.

When the lockdown was announced in March, the Election Commission clarified that all those who have registered will remain in the same condition as before but the election will be held later. So the candidature for this election has been registered now only the voting process will be conducted. Fourteen Rajya Sabha MPs from six states retired on March 9, while one MP from Meghalaya retired on April 15. Normally, elections were to be held on March 8 in 6 seats in which 4 candidates were selected without elections. The Election Commission also clarified that the 18 seats on which elections are going to be held on the 18th will be held in compliance with the guidelines issued by the government on the Corona epidemic. That is why masks and social distances have to be strictly followed at the time of elections.
