The number of corona patients is increasing in the states due to the return of migrant workers

Tourists from across the country are returning to their respective villages amid the lockdown so the number of corona patients in their states is increasing very fast. Odisha and Bihar are the two main examples. In Odisha, there were only 162 patients on May 3 and by May 14, the number had gone up to 611. Similarly, the number of corona patients in Bihar has crossed 940.

Of the 73 new positive cases reported on Thursday, 71 came from other states, according to a report released by the Odisha government. Most of them came from Surat, while 20 came from West Bengal and one from Karnataka. This led to a sharp rise in the number of infected people in the state in 11 days. There was not a single patient in South Odisha's Ganjam district till May 2 but now there are 137 corona positive.

Similarly, Bihar Chief Health Secretary Sanjay Kumar said that 75 per cent of the positive cases of corona reported in the state in the last one week were migrant workers. The number of patients in Bihar increased from 528 to 707 between May 4 and May 10. Out of the total 179 new cases, 150 are migrant laborers out of which 41 have returned from Delhi NCR, 36 from Maharashtra and 35 from Gujarat.

The situation is similar in West Bengal. However, the West Bengal government has not released the exact figure but since May 6, more than 100 people are being infected every day.

1,225 people from Huzur Sahib infected

In Punjab, too, there has been a sharp rise in the number of corona patients due to infections from outside. Out of 4,216 people returning from Huzur Sahib Gurudwara at Nanded, 1,225 people have been diagnosed with corona infection. At the same time, the number of Koro infections in Punjab crossed 1,934 on Thursday.
