Private schools can only charge tuition fees during lockdown: Delhi High Court

New delhi date. 13

The Delhi High Court has ordered two private schools in the national capital to charge tuition fees only during lockouts. On the other hand, Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia had earlier said that strict action would be taken against private schools if they charged fees other than tuition fees.

The Delhi government had allowed private school administrators in the capital to charge only tuition fees from students in lieu of conducting online classes.

Yet many schools are not ready to give any relief to parents. Private schools are charging parents a variety of fees, including tuition fees as well as annual fees and transport fees.

Parents are being sent a notice from the school to deposit the fee. On the other hand, there are complaints that schools have increased tuition fees. The Delhi government had earlier announced that no school would be able to increase fees this year. The government said it would take legal action against students if they received complaints of increased fees and deprivation of online classes.

The government further said that notices would also be sent to schools which have been forced to pay fees for three months at a time and have increased fees. Strict action will be taken if no clear reason is given in the notice.

On April 7, Education Minister Manish Sisodia had directed private schools not to raise fees, not to remove names from online classes, not to charge transport fees and not to charge three-month fees simultaneously. In addition, private schools will regularly pay their staff.
