Ola, an online cab booking service provider, plans to lay off 1,200 employees. This information was given by Ola CEO Bhavesh Agarwal to his employees. The news comes at a time when Ola has resumed its service in about 150 cities across the country after a partial lockdown. It may be mentioned that Ola's service has come to a complete halt following the lockdown that has been in force across the country since March 3.
According to news agency PTI, in an email sent to employees, Agarwal clarified that the future of the company is very vague and uncertain. Certainly this crisis will have a lasting effect on us.
"Corona virus is dangerous for our industry," Bhavesh Agarwal said in the mail. In the last two months, our earnings have declined by 3%. For the same reason, the company has decided to lay off 1,200 employees. The saddest thing is that millions of our drivers and their families have been deprived of their livelihood in these difficult times.
Earlier, Ola's rival Uber had also announced layoffs of 3,000 employees worldwide following the Kovid 12 epidemic. Similarly, online food delivery companies Swiggy and Zomato have also announced layoffs. Swiggy will lay off 1,100 employees while Zomato will lay off 15 per cent of its employees.
