The ongoing controversy over the recovery of labor special train fares, which was started to send laborers trapped in another state due to the lockdown, is raging. Several opposition parties, including the Congress, have lashed out at the government over the issue, accusing it of not caring about the poor. Railways then say that they are charging only normal fare from the state government, which is only 15 per cent of the total cost of this journey. Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi has also targeted the central government over the issue.

Priyanka Gandhi tweeted, Labor is the creator of the nation. But today they are in so much trouble, this is a cause of sorrow for the whole country. Recently, the central government decided to launch a special labor train to send a large number of stranded tourists to other states. But, Indian Railways has issued guidelines for the state government and said that people traveling in these trains should have a ticket fare. It also said that the trains will be started when 90 per cent of the seats are full.

However, in the wake of the controversy, Indian Railways has clarified that it is charging only standard fare for this category from the state government, which is only 15 per cent of the total cost incurred by the railways. The railways is not taking any tickets from the tourists and is only sending the passengers home based on the list provided by the state. Indian Railways is operating a special train with berths in each coach to maintain social distance. Passengers are being provided free meals and bottled water by the Railway Ministry.
