Addressing the people of the country on Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced an economic package of Rs 20 lakh crore, calling it a 'self-reliant India' package. He expressed confidence that the package would help keep the economy afloat.

The Prime Minister said, "This package will change the image of the country and help everyone to come out of the crisis of Koro. This economic package is for our cottage industry, housing industry, small businesses, MSMEs as well as our labor brothers."

Let us know some interesting facts related to this package:

20 lakh crore

Everybody is wondering how to calculate Rs 20 lakh crore, how it will change the image of the country. First of all, there are 13 zeros in 20 lakh crores, that is, 2000 billion. Rs 20 lakh crore accounts for 10 per cent of India's GDP. This means that the Indian economy is worth Rs 200 lakh crore. India has set a budget of about Rs 30 lakh crore for the year 2020-21.

Comparison with Pakistan

If we compare the package announced by the Prime Minister with the economy of Pakistan, in the year 2019, the government of Pakistan presented a budget of 7,022 billion Pakistani rupees, which is about 3.30 lakh crore in Indian rupees. Thus, India's relief package is six times larger than Pakistan's budget.

Four times the total budget of Maharashtra

The Maharashtra government had presented a budget of Rs 4.34 lakh crore for the year 2020-21. If the relief package is compared with it, then the relief package is more than four times the total budget of Maharashtra.

Compare with the defense budget

In the year 2019-20, India's defense budget totaled Rs 3,05,296 crore and the amount of relief package is six times higher. Rs 69,000 crore has been earmarked for the health budget in 2020-21. Thus the amount of relief package is 30 times more than the health budget.

Expenditure plan behind education

The Government of India plans to spend Rs 99,300 crore on education in the year 2020-21, which is 20th of the total amount of the relief package. In the financial year 2019-20, the Indian government spent a total of Rs 26.99 lakh crore, which is 30 per cent more than the relief package.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while addressing the nation at 8 pm on Tuesday, announced a huge relief package. During the address, he said, "It is not permissible for human beings to get tired, lose, break down and disintegrate. By being vigilant and following all the rules of this war, we have to survive and move on."
