Modi government's package is not Rs 20 lakh crore but Rs 3.22 lakh: Congress claims

New delhi date. 17 May 2020, Sunday

Senior Congress leader Anand Sharma has expressed displeasure over the special package announced by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman to keep the country's economy afloat due to the lockdown. He said the package made it clear that the central government did not have a roadmap to revive the country's economy.

The government cannot call this loan an incentive package. Governments of all countries have announced incentive packages to give people false assurances. The government has not announced any package for the urban poor and migrant workers.

Expressing displeasure over the Rs 20 lakh crore special package announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi due to the lockdown amid the Corona virus epidemic, Anand Sharma said that the special package is worth Rs 3.22 lakh crore. Which is 1.6 per cent of GDP. As the Prime Minister said, there is no such thing as a Rs 20 lakh crore package.

He further said that the position of the finance minister in this matter is understandable as the economy has collapsed and etiquette has to be maintained, but why the railways have not been arranged for the workers. People are dying on the road. The government is only helping by announcing the package.
