Mamata Banerjee: 12 killed in Odisha-Bengal riots

The hurricane has wreaked havoc in West Bengal and Odisha. More than a dozen people have been killed in both the states. Heavy rains and stormy winds shook both the states till late night. No one has seen or heard such a storm in the last several years. The speed of the wind was such that there was nothing to uproot anything on earth.

In just a few hours, Hurricane Amphan to the people of Odisha and Bengal. By the time the speed of the storm stopped, everything in Calcutta had turned upside down. The city was flooded. The carriages were floating like boats. Trees were uprooted on the road. Large hoardings, electricity pylons fell.


The storm erupted on Wednesday evening. Howrah Bridge also bowed to this. The hurricane took something from the top of the bridge to the bottom in such a way that the bridge stopped appearing. The roof of a school in Howrah was blown away by the strong winds.


Relief work continues

The effects of the catastrophe are felt in many places in Bengal. Its deep scars are on every side after the storm has passed. The relief team is trying to remove the broken trees from the road but is not taking the name of completion of the work. The relief work is facing more difficulties as the roads are flooded.


The wind was blowing at a speed of 130 km per hour in Calcutta

The storm reached a speed of more than 180 kmph when it hit the coast in Bengal, while a few hours later, the wind was blowing at 130 kmph in the city of Calcutta. Amfan's worst hit areas were North 24 Parganas, South 24 Parganas, Midnapore and Calcutta in West Bengal.

10-12 people were killed in Bengal

The extent of the devastation in West Bengal is yet to be ascertained, but CM Mamata Banerjee says at least 10-12 people have been affected by the storm. He says the DM, SP and administration officials are working on the sidelines. The exact number is not yet known but 10-12 people have been killed.
