Know what is the McMahon Line? Why doesn't China consider this line drawn between India and Tibet in 1914?

New delhi date. May 29, 2020, Friday

The last few days have seen clashes between Indian and Chinese troops near the Line of Actual Control (LAC) over the border dispute. About 20 days ago, Chinese helicopters came close to the Indian air border but Indian fighter jets flew over Leh Air Base and drove them back. Recent satellite images show signs of large-scale Chinese military presence along the road in the Aksai Chin area.

Aksai Chin is a region of Ladakh that has been occupied by China since the 1962 war. While in the western sector, India claims Aksai Chin. Analysis of the images revealed that the moving structures in the Aksai Chin region could be 30-50 meters high. These images show visible and visible changes to the ground that may have been caused by a large-scale movement.

Know what is a border dispute?

India and China are connected by a 3,488 km long border. The border runs through Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh. At the same time it is divided into three sectors namely Western Sector i.e. Jammu and Kashmir, Middle Sector i.e. Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Eastern Sector i.e. Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh.

China claims Arunachal Pradesh in the eastern sector as part of southern Tibet. He is also unwilling to accept the McMahon line between Tibet and Arunachal Pradesh, citing non-existence in 1914 when an agreement was reached between the representatives of British India and Tibet. In fact the British rulers of enslaved India considered Tawang and the southern region as part of India and the Tibetans allowed it. The Chinese delegation is not ready to believe this.

China says it has a right to Tibet so it cannot take any decision without China's approval. In fact, Tibet was weak but independent when the McMahon Line was formed in 1914. However, China has never considered Tibet an independent country and is therefore not considering the decision. China completely occupied Tibet in 1950.

In the midst of these disputes both countries considered the current control on the border to be LAC. However, there are differences of opinion between China and India over the current control and this is why there are always reports of tension between the two countries around it.

Why is McMahon named?

Sir Henry McMahon was its main narrator during the Shimla Convention on Boundary Demarcation between Britain and Tibet during 1913-1914. This is why the line is known as the McMahon Line. Britain, China and Tibet joined as separate parties during the Shimla Accord.

The then Foreign Secretary of the Indian Empire, Henry McMahon, drew the 890 km long border between British India and Tibet in which Tawang (Arunachal Pradesh) was considered part of British India.

The McMahon Line is the 'Great Band' of the Brahmaputra River to the west of Bhutan and to the east. Before the Yarlung Jangbo flows from China into Arunachal Pradesh and becomes the Brahmaputra, the river takes a very large turn in a southerly direction called the Great Band.

Gained international recognition in 1937

The Shimla Agreement was reached before the First World War but the situation changed during the World War. A long time later, in 1937, a book by the British - A Collection of Treaties, Engagements and Sands Relating to India and Neighboring Countries was published. It was prepared by C. U. Achis, Under Secretary to the Government of India (British) in the Foreign Office. It was the official collection of treaties and agreements between India and its neighboring country. It added new information and the McMahon line gained international recognition.

The reason for China's refusal

China is unwilling to believe this and says it has been kept in the dark about building the McMahon line. The proposal to create only Inner and Outer Tibet was discussed with China. Keeping China in the dark, Tibetan envoys Lonchen Shatra and Henry McMahon drew the McMahon line on the basis of an agreement of secret discussion.
