Indian Railways runs special train to supply onions to Bangladesh

Indian Railways has run special freight trains to supply onions to Bangladesh. Bhusawal Mandal of Central Railway is a famous onion transport hub from where onions are now being exported to Bangladesh. The first onion train left Lasalgam on May 6.


In the midst of the Corona virus crisis, the railways have announced exemptions in demurrage and warphase, exemptions in distance restrictions for booking mini racks and two-point racks and standard rack structure. This was followed by a meeting with the loaders via video conference by the Commerce and Operations Department. After which it started exporting onions to Da Rasana, Benapole and Rohanpur stations in Bangladesh.

Every possible help is being given to the loaders in coordination with the district administration. In the meantime, social distance and sanitation are being fully complied with.


The Central Railway has loaded more than one lakh wagons of goods during the lockdown. One lakh 07 thousand 698 wagons of grain, coal and other necessities of life have been loaded in Central, Mumbai, Nagpur, Bhulaval, Solapur and Pune Mandal after the announcement of lockdown.
