Heavy heatwave in northern India, temperature near 50 degrees in Delhi

Extreme heat is prevailing in several states amid the lockdown. In Delhi, the mercury had crossed 4.5 degrees. Roads are congested in the afternoon in many states. The heat is breaking records, Delhi has been experiencing continuous heat for the last few days. The entire capital, Luni, has been engulfed. At the same time, the effect of Luni is being seen in many states of North India. Most cities recorded six degrees above normal.

The temperature in Delhi's Palam rose to 4.5 degrees Celsius on Wednesday, causing the capital to become a furnace. While in Churu, Rajasthan, the temperature reached 40 degrees. For the second time in the last 10 years, the temperature in Churu has reached 40 degrees. Earlier, on May 12, 2016, the temperature in Churu was recorded at 40.5 degrees Celsius. Rising temperatures have led people to use more coolers and ACs, which has led to a sudden surge in demand for electricity in Delhi. The temperature in the capital has reached close to 40 degrees Celsius and electricity consumption has increased.

On Tuesday alone, the demand for electricity in Delhi had reached 4 MW. People are now facing heat amid an outbreak of the corona virus. Lu has been issued in Rajasthan, Delhi and several states in North India for the last five days. People have shouted trahimam because of the heat wave. In the coming days, heat wave is likely to hit Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, western Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and eastern Rajasthan, including some parts of Rajasthan. Along with this, the effect of heatwave can be seen in Punjab, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, Saurashtra and Kutch for the next 3 hours.
