Donors to Ram Mandir Trust will get income tax relief: Central Government

The Central Government has decided to give income tax exemption to the donors of 'Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Tirth Kshetra Trust' set up for the construction of Ram Mandir in Ayodhya. The Union Finance Ministry has issued a notification on Friday evening. Donors to the Ram Mandir Trust have been given relief under Section 80G of the Income Tax Act by the Central Board of Direct Taxes. The Union Finance Ministry has included the 'Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Tirth Kshetra Trust' in its list of historically important places and places of public worship. Donors will get tax exemption from the financial year 2020-21.

Under Section 80G of the Income-tax Act, any social, political and public interest organization has the right to be exempted from paying tax on donations made to government relief funds. But these tax exemptions are not the same for every donation but are subject to certain conditions and rules.

The Supreme Court had on November 9 last year handed over the disputed 67 acres of land to the Hindu party in a landmark decision in the Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid dispute. When the government ordered the Muslim party to allot 5 acres of land at an important place in Ayodhya for the construction of the mosque. The apex court also directed the central government to set up a trust for the construction of the temple within three months. The Central Government then formed the 'Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Tirth Kshetra Trust' on February 8.
