Kolkata, Ta. 16 May 2020, Saturday

Kolkata, the capital of West Bengal, is currently witnessing a steady rise in the number of coronavirus cases. In the midst of all this, at least 185 nurses from Manipur working in various private hospitals in Kolkata have resigned and left for their home state.

A senior official at a private hospital said the Kovid-19 epidemic had already led to a shortage of nurses' staff and that this had exacerbated the problem of nurses resigning.

"Our parents are concerned and we are also under stress because of the increasing number of cases here every day. Our state is in the green zone and we want to go back home. Family and parents are our priority," said one nurse during a phone conversation. Another nurse hoped to get a job in the future if she survived.

In the midst of all this, 10 more people died due to corona virus infection in the last 24 hours in the state and the total death toll rose to 215. In the last 24 hours, there have been 2,461 cases of Covid-19 against 84 new cases of coronary heart disease, out of which 1,407 patients are undergoing treatment.
