The number of people seeking employment under MGNREGA also increased

As the economy slows down in the country, the number of people seeking employment under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MNREGA) is also on the rise. According to statistics, the demand for employment under MNREGA has reached a record 9-year high in 2019-20.

As per the data uploaded on the official Portal of MNREGA, 5.47 crore families have demanded work under MNREGA. This is the highest since 2010-11. At that time, 5.5 crore households demanded employment.

According to statistics, the highest number of people worked under the scheme in 2019-20 individually. Out of which 7.86 crore people were employed in various locations across the country.

This is the highest since 2012-13, when 7.97 crore people worked under the scheme. National Guarantee Scheme was launched in 2006 in 200 districts across the country.

A source in the Ministry of Rural Development said, "It is likely that this time the employment figures are higher than last year." During 2019-20, the Center has allocated Rs 72,162.13 crore under MNREGA which is the highest ever.

According to statistics, the highest number of people worked under the scheme in 2019-20 individually. Out of which 7.86 crore people were employed in various locations across the country.


This is the highest since 2012-13, when 7.97 crore people worked under the scheme. National Guarantee Scheme was launched in 2006 in 200 districts across the country.
