Good news amid corona care: Ozone gap widens in history

What is special is that this gap has not been filled due to reduction in pollution due to lockdown, but there is another reason behind it.

At present the whole world is fighting an epidemic called Corona. At a time when there is an atmosphere of fear and anxiety all around, scientists have given a great deal of relief and good news. The news is not related to the corona but to the ozone layer. Recently, scientists have claimed that the largest gap in the ozone layer in history has been filled. Earlier this month, scientists noticed a gap in the ozone layer. Spread over an area of 1 million square kilometers, the gap was the largest in history. Which was located above the Arctic at the North Pole.

The ozone layer in the Earth's outer atmosphere protects the Earth from ultraviolet rays from the sun. These rays are a major cause of skin cancer. This gap in the Arctic poses a great danger to humans if it moves beyond the central or southern part of the human-inhabited earth. Copernicus, the European Union's earth monitoring program, said in a statement that the "ozone gap" had been filled. Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service and Copernicus Change Service tweeted this information.

At present there are lockdowns in many countries of the world, which have led to a reduction in pollution, but neither the reduction in pollution nor the lockdown is responsible for this gaping evidence. The ozone layer is filled by the polar vortex. The polar region of the earth, i.e. the air cycle in the upper atmosphere of the North Pole and the South Pole, is called the Polar Vortex. The job of this polar vortex is to carry cold air to the polar regions.

According to the Copernicus Agency, the polar vortex was very powerful this year, with temperatures also very low. This led to the formation of the stratospheric cloud, which destroyed the ozone layer by processing it with CAEC gas. These polar vortices have been weakened for some time now. Which has made the ozone layer gap worse.
