From now on, even private minority colleges will get admission only through NEET: Supreme Court decision

The Supreme Court on Wednesday delivered a landmark judgment on the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET). According to the court ruling, from now on, net and non-grantable minority vocational colleges will also be required to apply for admission in MBBS, BDS and post graduate courses. The apex court clarified that the constitutional rights conferred on such colleges by NIT were not being violated.
In fact, private, non-aided minority colleges filed an application in the Supreme Court claiming that the NIT exam was against their religious freedom and fundamental rights. The bench headed by Justice Arun Mishra clarified that NEET does not violate their fundamental rights to seek exemption in minority organizations which are not receiving assistance.
What is NEET
Knit i.e. National Eligibility and Entrance Examination is mandatory for admission in courses associated with the medical line. Prior to 2016, for medical courses, All India Pre-Medical Test (AIPMT) had to be given through which medical students got admission in courses including MBBS, BDS. After 2016, only one examination was held at the national level through which all medical colleges get admission.
The reason for the protest
The private minority medical college is opposing Knit. According to him, Article 30 of the Constitution gives minorities the right to establish their own educational institution and Article 30 sub-article 50 mentions that minority institutions are free to admit students as they wish.
