Elections for the remaining 18 Rajya Sabha postponed

The Election Commission has decided to postpone the elections to the Rajya Sabha in the wake of the Corona lockdown. Out of 5, the term of the three MPs in the state is going to be completed on April 1, while the term of one MP from Meghalaya is being completed on April 7. The Election Commission has decided to postpone the election of these four seats using constitutional authority.

These seats are from Andhra Pradesh, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Manipur, Rajasthan, Gujarat and Meghalaya. In a statement, the Election Commission has said that it has been decided to postpone the elections to the Rajya Sabha seats as there is a high chance of breakingdown in the lockdown as many people are gathering in the election process.

Earlier, the Rajya Sabha elections were to be held on March 3. However, six of those candidates were elected unopposed. The remaining six candidates were to be elected on March 7, but due to the corona epidemic, the election was also postponed. Now, the Election Commission has decided to postpone the election of these four seats using constitutional authority.
