Concern for supply of PPE to medical staff treating patients in India

New delhi date. 9 April 2020, Thursday

The government is worried about the lack of a PPE (Personal Protection Equipment) suit for health workers among Corona's growing patients.

India, too, is facing China's disruption. But India does not have the extra sewing machine. The machine is from China with Mangawan but China has sought 14 weeks to supply the machine.

According to a newspaper report quoting a government official, Germany also manufactures the machine but the country is closed due to lockdown. India produces 12000 PPE per day with whatever machine is available. Which can be increased to 30000 per day by 23 April.

The official said that if India gets another 200 to 300 machines, the production of PPE can be increased to one lakh per day.

The concern is that if patients increase, PPE will be needed and if they are lacking then the medical staff may be sick. The government is now calling for PPE from other countries. So far, two lakh PPEs have been received. By April 15, there will be another two lakh suits.

The government aims to generate 150 million PPE by June. There are 12 companies making this suit in India. Another 12 companies will be added to it. There are 65000 PPEs in India. The government has also asked private companies to increase pressure on machine suppliers in China.
