UN warns Corona will lose 2.5 million jobs

Washington, Ta. March 19, 2020, Thursday

Amid the erosion of the worldwide economy due to the Corona virus, the United Nations has feared that in the coming days, 250 million people will lose their jobs in the world.

In its report to the International Labor Organization, the UN organization said that the biggest impact is likely to be on the retail sector. 1.1 million people in this sector, 1.2 million people in the tourism and hospitality sector and 20 million in the ecommerce sector can be idle. The real estate sector is estimated to have 35 percent jobs.

The report says efforts to reduce unemployment need to be made quickly. For this, countries around the world should work to save jobs by providing short-time work, paid leave and other subsidies.

According to the International Labor Organization, the economic problems caused by Corona will be worse than the economic recession in 2008. 2.2 million people lost their jobs at that time. This time the figure could rise to 25 million.
