The government raised the criticism of a ban on two news channels in Kerala

New delhi date. March 7, 2020, Saturday

The restrictions imposed by the Union IB ministry on the Kerala channels over the Delhi riots have finally been lifted. There was heavy opposition to the ban on social media, following which the government finally issued a statement saying that we had removed all the restrictions we had imposed.

Although the ban was not permanent, 48 hours was sufficient. The sanctions are being blamed for criticizing a particular community and the RSS over the violence in Delhi. While giving information on the lifting of sanctions, Union Minister Prakash Javadekar said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had expressed concern over the whole issue and said that the government was supportive of media freedom.

Without disclosing any further details, Javadekar said, "I am investigating the matter and if any misconduct is reported, appropriate action will be taken."

At the same time, everyone should acknowledge that independence also has to be maintained with certain responsibilities. The channels were banned at 7.30pm on Friday, Delhi violence was done on this issue and broadcasting was banned for 48 hours.

The channels on which these sanctions were imposed lifted the ban on Asianet News at 1.30 pm, while the ban on Media One Channel was lifted on Saturday morning at nine and a half hours. That means the sanctions had to be lifted before the 48-hour period ended.

Social media has strongly criticized the move to impose government sanctions. The Congress and the Left parties also criticized the government. Kerala Chief Minister Vijayanan said that the ban on channels was a very scary step.
