Demand for petrol diesel drastically reduced, government will save Rs 2 lakh crore foreign exchange

New delhi date. 30. March 2020 Monday

Demand for petrol and diesel has dropped drastically in the country due to lockdown due to corona virus.

Demand for petrol and diesel has dropped 10 to 20 percent compared to the previous one. Under these circumstances, the government's crude oil import bill is also declining.

There are about 78000 petrol pumps in the country. During the normal days, 100 million liters of petrol and 32 million diesel are sold.

In 2018-19, the government's import bill was Rs 7.8 lakh crore, which is likely to decline this year.

However, the government is losing excise duty due to falling demand. It is estimated that the government is facing losses of Rs 206 crore on petrol and Rs 550 crore on diesel in the form of excise duty on a daily basis.
