Commission's decision to postpone Rajya Sabha elections to be held on March 26

Following the Corona virus epidemic, the Election Commission has decided to postpone the Rajya Sabha elections to be held on March 26. Elections were to be held on March 26 for 55 Rajya Sabha seats. However, out of these 55 seats, 37 candidates from 37 seats in 10 states have been declared non-contest winners.

The remaining 18 seats have been decided to postpone the elections on March 26. The 18 seats are from Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya and Rajasthan.

The Election Commission said in a statement that the new date for the postponed election will be announced keeping in view the country's destiny. The Election Commission has said that the decision was taken as it was not appropriate to gather in public to prevent Kora virus.

According to the Health Ministry, so far 500 cases of corona virus have been registered in India. Lockdowns have been announced across the country to prevent these cases from escalating. By March 31, road, rail and air traffic have been closed.

In addition, it has been decided to close the Rajya Sabha and the Lok Sabha Secretariat completely. No one will be allowed to enter the office. It has been decided to close the Rajya Sabha Secretariat till Friday while the Lok Sabha Secretariat will remain closed till March 31.

It is worth mentioning that the Rajya Sabha has 1400 officers and employees. After the passage of the monetary bill yesterday, the Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha proceedings were adjourned indefinitely.
