Assam NRC will not affect Bangladesh: Center assurance

Dhaka, Ta. March 2, 2020, Monday

The NRC has been implemented in Assam and, following which, 19 lakh people could not be included in this NRC list, most of them are claimed to be from Bangladesh. Concern has been raised by Bangladeshi leaders in the meantime, but on the other hand, India has already made it clear that the implementation of NRC will not affect Bangladesh as it is an internal matter of India.

Bangladesh Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen and Home Minister Asaduzzaman were scheduled to arrive in India a few days ago, though he canceled his visit suddenly. Applying the NRC in Assam, Bangladesh leaders were upset. India is currently trying to remedy this outrage.

Speaking at a seminar on Bangladesh and India, Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan said that the entire process of updating the NRC is under the supervision of the Supreme Court of India and India is assured that it will not affect Bangladesh.

He also claimed that our top leadership has repeatedly told the Bangladeshi leaders and the government that the NRC is India's interim issue and will have no impact on Bangladesh. Bangladesh is worried that India could send Bangladesh to a very large number of Assam who could not join the NRC.
