Sanjeev Chawla extradited from Britain, Delhi court granted 12-day remand

The match-fixing scandal took place in the year 2000. Bookie Sanjeev Chawla, one of the main accused in the match-fixing scandal, was extradited from Britain. He was subsequently produced before a Delhi court. The court granted 12 days remand and remanded him in police custody.

Buccaneer Sanjeev Chawla, who made the match-fixing conversation with South African cricket team captain Hansi Crony, was extradited from Britain. Bookie Sanjeev Chawla was accused in a match-fixing scandal that tarnished cricket in the year 2000.

He teamed up with Hansie Crony to fix the match. Police released audio of Sanjeev and Crony, in which Sanjeev proved to be a match fixer. Sanjiv Chawla accepted the charges after initially denying all the allegations.

He fled Britain after match-fixing was exposed. Indian investigating agencies have taken various procedures against it. His leg was not found until 2016. In 2016, British police arrested Sanjeev Chawla.

British police said they were arrested on request of the Indian Investigation Agency. Sanjeev Chawla was extradited from Britain at the end of various procedures. After being brought to India, he was produced by the police in Delhi court. Police demanded his 14-day remand.

The court granted Chawla's 12-day remand. Meanwhile, Chawla will be taken to places like Vadodara, Cochin, Jamshedpur, Faridabad, Nagpur and Mumbai for investigation. Police will investigate the match fixing.

As part of that, Sanjeev Chawla will be kept in a separate cell in Tihar Jail. He will not be held with any other accused. When his police custody is over and judicial custody is ordered, the arrangements made for him in Tihar Jail will be imprisoned.
