Rusi Sunak, son-in-law of Narayan Murthy becomes Britain's new finance minister

Indian-origin politician Rusi Sunak has been appointed Britain's new finance minister on Thursday. Sunak is the son-in-law of Narayan Murthy, co-founder of Infosys. He is married to the idol's daughter Akshata.

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson made the switch to his cabinet after Sajid Javid, a Pakistani-origin, resigned as finance minister.

Sunak Johnson is another important Indian-origin minister in the cabinet. Preet Patel is a British Home Minister of Indian origin. Sajid recently announced his unexpected resignation.

The Johnson-led Conservative Party came to power again in the December 2019 general election. The 39-year-old Sunk is born in Hampshire, having been a Richmond (Yorkshire) MP since 2015.

Prior to being promoted to chief secretary in the Treasury last year, he was a junior minister in the local government department. Downing Street said in an official announcement that the Queen had approved Rusi Sunak's appointment as Chancellor of Exchanger.

Rushie, the son of a pharmacist mother and the father of a general practitioner of the National Health Service, has studied at Oxford University and Stanford.

Before entering politics, he established a billion-pound global investment firm with his partner and gained expertise in investing in small British businesses.

Alok Sharma and Suela Brewerman are among other Indian-origin MPs who are expected to be inducted into the cabinet this week.
