Google's free WiFi service at railway stations closed due to internet being cheap in India

Google has decided to discontinue the free WiFi service available at railway stations as the Internet is cheaper in India. Google said this WiFi feature is no longer effective because of the cheap data plan.

Google's India-based official, Caesar Sengupta, informed in a blog that because the data plan is very cheap in the country, the need for wifi at railway stations is reduced. Even so, maintaining the WiFi system at the railway stations of the country was a lot of work. Google will eventually stop the service.

The Google official said the company is planning to close station worldwide WiFi programs by the end of 2020. With data plans becoming very cheap, the Internet is now very easy to find. The original purpose of this program was to give people free internet access, which is now complete.

Google said that making WiFi systems, devices, and its networks was becoming increasingly difficult for our partner organization in all countries. The task of sustaining it was so complex. Google launched the Station WiFi program in 2015. The project, launched in collaboration with Indian Railways, provided free WiFi service in more than 400 stations across the country.
